Women 'are financially unfit'

Women 'are financially unfit' The last thing a woman wants to hear is the 'F' word - yes, that's right, fat. But according to research conducted last year, women are struggling to squeeze into their financial clothing.

Research conducted by ICM for Abbey has prompted Nici-Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey, to state that women are financially overweight when compared with men.

The statistics show that in terms of excess financial weight, women are tipping the scales by 46 per cent, although men aren't too far behind at 41 per cent.

Women are apparently doing less well with their finances because they spend less time reviewing their mortgages, resulting in them receiving a worse rate, while they also tend to save less.

In fact, 70 per cent of women involved in the survey claimed that they don't have savings for the next three months.

Reasons for why this might be were put forward by Ms Aduhlam-Gardiner: "One, you could argue that maybe women have less time and they're juggling more things and so they just make less time for their finances.

"And maybe also, they're just less confident in them."

When it comes to money saving tips, Ms Audhlam-Gardiner advises women to focus on their finances and be disciplined when it comes to their cash.
