Luxury holidays appealing to adventurous Brits

Luxury holidays appealing to adventurous Brits An increasing number of people are choosing to go on luxury holidays to emerging economy destinations such as Brazil, China, Dubai, India, China, South Korea and Vietnam in a bid to experience something different, it has been revealed.

According to Francis Tuke of the Association of British Travel Agents, emerging economies have seen the biggest growth as holiday destinations in recent years as tourists become tired of standard package tours.

"[People] visit different kinds of countries to have different types of holiday experiences and those kinds of countries really offer that in spades. They are exciting, they are exotic, they are developing fast," she said.

According to the World Tourism Association, the market share of developing countries had grown to 40 per cent of worldwide international arrivals between 2000 and 2007 - up from 34 per cent in 2000.

Meanwhile, the World Travel and Tourism Council found that considerable ground has also been made by other smaller emerging markets such as Angola, Montenegro, Libya and the Seychelles.

Earlier this month, Dr George Kassianos of the UK Malaria Guidelines Committee warned holidaymakers that exotic destinations can be more risky in terms of diseases if the proper precautions are not taken and advised travelers to see their GP prior to taking a trip.
